Wales-Darby, Inc., a company providing sales, engineering, customer service and training to the plumbing and HVAC industries, today announced that they have signed on as a Champion of Clean Air NY. Clean Air NY is a dynamic collaboration of organizations and individuals in the New York metro area who are taking action to improve air quality and combat ozone pollution.

They are showing their commitment to cleaner air by implementing NuRide, a ride share network that offers incentives for carpools, vanpools, biking and walking to work. They will also announce Air Quality Action Days – days when the air quality is in the unhealthy range.

Air quality is a serious, ongoing problem – one that the EPA recently declared hazardous to human health. If just ten percent of commuters in the New York metropolitan area carpooled, worked from home or used public transit once a week, emissions of ozone precursors would be reduced by about 5,100 tons each week – that’s the weight equivalent of 720 elephants or 2,550 standard size SUVs.

As a Champion, Wales-Darby is joining groups such as BAE Systems, IBM and Clever Devices, who are also working with Clean Air NY to lower New York’s ozone concentration and improve air quality.
